Location: Blue Mountains NSW (please contact me for details) I also do phone counselling and Skype if you have trouble leaving the house.
Hours: Contact me for a mutually agreeable time.
Cost: $40 per session ( one hour). I can do half hour sessions also, which are helpful to people suffering from chronic illness. Competitive rates compared to other NDIS service providers.
For help with: Career changes, breaking bad habits, reinventing yourself, dealing with anxiety, stress, relationship problems, self-esteem, anger management, obsession, grief and loss, emotional pain, avoidance behaviours and trauma.
I specialise in counselling for those who are suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I have CFS myself, so I do understand how incredibly hard it is and I’m aware that very few mental health professionals have any understanding at all around this puzzling condition. I believe there needs to be more professionals who do home visits and Skype calls. I know the irony of being too sick to go to the doctor.
What is good therapy? I believe good therapy is based in a relationship of positive unconditional regard, where you are able to freely express your emotions, feelings and thoughts, in a safe, totally confidential environment without any fear of condemnation or rejection. You should feel valued, respected, accepted, appreciated and most of all – heard.
Many people have asked me, “What is one hour a week going to do?” I reply that I’m merely the re-router, each week I’m there to help you get back on track and point you in direction that is going to take you towards the goals that you have told me are important to you.
Counselling: I would define counselling as a client presenting with a need for guidance and support to work through a particular issue(s).
What to expect: I usually start off in the same way with most people/families. Get to know you. Find out what bought you to counselling. Find out what’s currently working for you. Find out what barriers and challenges you have to your goals. Work with you to develop strategies for change. Improve communication styles and develop skills in approaching others to get needs met.
Coaching: I see coaching as more of an opportunity to encourage, support, boost performance and develop skills and abilities. More of a side by side mentoring role.
Careers: I aim these skills mostly at school leavers and those suffering from a mid-life crisis! Usually only two sessions are needed to help someone clarify their sense of purpose. It’s a very solution focused practical session.
Confidentiality: Confidentiality is paramount in a therapeutic relationship. It’s a part of trust and it’s a part of knowing that you can be absolutely open in a counselling session and that what you say remains private. Confidentiality is limited only if there is a risk of harm to yourself or somebody else.
